After several iterations over the years, I decided to completely rebuild RadicalDave.com from the ground up using Astro and Bootstrap 5. The goal was simple: create a fast, maintainable, and great-looking personal site with minimal JavaScript overhead. Astro's island architecture means the site ships zero JavaScript by default and pages are static HTML with only the interactive components you explicitly add. Combined with Bootstrap's utility classes and component system, the result is both visually consistent and lightning fast. The best part? The site now scores 4 perfect 100s in Google Lighthouse: - Performance: 100 - Accessibility: 100 - Best Practices: 100 - SEO: 100 This was achieved through responsive images, efficient CSS, semantic HTML, and Astro's built-in optimizations.
